Obtaining F-1 visa

IAU and F-1 Visa

International American University (IAU) is authorized to enroll eligible international students in F-1 status for approved academic programs and English language training. Students accepted for full-time study may apply for an F-1 student visa through the U.S. Embassy or Consulate in their home country.

Visa application procedures and requirements may vary by country and may change over time. Prospective students should consult the official U.S. Embassy or Consulate in their country for the most current information and instructions regarding the F-1 student visa application process.

F-1 Visa Application Overview

International students who are outside the United States and do not have a valid F-1 student visa should generally apply through the U.S. Embassy or Consulate responsible for their place of permanent residence. Applicants should follow the latest visa application requirements provided by the relevant U.S. consular office.

Students are encouraged to begin the visa application process well in advance of their planned arrival in the United States. Before the visa interview, applicants must be prepared to provide required documentation, including proof of payment of the SEVIS I-901 fee, as applicable.

Visa appointment availability and processing times can vary by location and season. Students should therefore check the current requirements and appointment availability with the appropriate U.S. Embassy or Consulate and plan accordingly to arrive and complete orientation and registration by the start date listed on their Form I-20.
